Elspeth, Catriona & I had travelled by bus to the border town of Koh Kong. The fresh green beauty of the Cambodian countryside at this time of year was worth the 6+ hours journey. We had never travelled along the road through the Cardamom Mountains before. Sometimes we forget that there’s countryside and beauty when we live in the city.
We were able to visit the mangrove forest, where we walked along a concrete walkway between the trees and over the water to the river where we caught a boat to an island where we had fun hunting for hermit crabs – well the kids did! There’s also ‘Safari World’ in Koh Kong, where we watched all the shows: tigers, orang-utans, birds, dolphins, crocodiles. I had to pinch myself that I was still in Cambodia! It’s so different from the rest of the country.
We travelled around Koh Kong by Tuk Tuk. When we got a flat tyre the driver got very grumpy. I think he was still grumpy because he didn’t turn up to take us to the bus station….it was quite nerve wracking wondering if we’d get there on time…..the bus waited for us.
